With all the commercial work I'm doing right now it's not easy for me to focus on comics, but I'm definitely working on Unearthers whenever I find a few hours here or there. I am determined to share with you whatever I can from time to time, so here's a promo - using the splash opening art from the comic - that neatly sets the tone for what's to come.
The Mars face? Hasn't that been debunked as an optical illusion by now? Well... maybe. But this is fiction, guys.
I can vividly remember the first time I saw this strange ghost-like image in a book about supernatural phenomena in the 70s, and it scared the shit out of me. For years, I couldn't open the book on this particular page, especially not at night (The same effect I had years later with the cover of Whitley Strieber's book The Visitors). Aliens have been a fascination for me ever since. Even today, I'm actually more afraid to be abducted by aliens than of getting mugged in a bad part of the city at night! So this is kind of therapeutical.
With Unearthers I have the opportunity to bring in as much weird science mystery stuff as I like, especially from the 60s and 70s when science fiction was still visionary and elegant (Do you remember all those stylishly white corridors from that era's movies? I do...).
Okay, enough teasing for today. There's no set date or publisher for this project yet; it's entirely self-motivated, so hope for the best and let me know what you think!
